Ali’s Story
Even in families where children are loved and valued, poverty often means children suffer despite the best efforts of their parents. Ali’s (not actual name) mother worked cleaning a café in Beirut, Lebanon, but her income was so small that she and Ali usually had to live on the street. That’s why Ali, who is four years old, spent much of his young life in a program for street children before coming to live with us at the Kids Alive home last October. When he first came to us, Ali was very quiet and looked sad much of the time. But now he is all smiles, as he has come to love playing with his new “brothers, going to school, and even playing the role of a wonderful “sheep” in the school Christmas play.
