Almost Buried Alive

zambia-moisesShortly after Moise was born his mother died. And his father was nowhere to be found. Moise’s extended family didn’t want another baby. They were struggling to feed their own hungry children in this devastated economy. The family determined that the best thing to do was to bury Moise with his mother. The casket was purchased, the arrangements made. On the day of the funeral, moments before they were to close the casket, Moise’s grandfather stopped everything. He couldn’t bear to watch his helpless baby grandson become another victim of the hopelessness that was trying to suffocate them. He spoke up at the very last minute. Perhaps he was waiting to see if someone else – an aunt, an uncle – anyone – would come forward and save the baby’s life. But no one did. He just couldn’t let this healthy baby die. He took Baby Moise in his arms and carried him home.

How Moise’s Grandfather became connected with Kids Alive we’re not exactly sure, but we’re glad he did! He placed the baby in our care. That was a year ago. This summer, a family from the States traveled to Zambia to visit the Kids Alive ministry firsthand. Their son, Kyle, couldn’t wait to see Moise, the little boy he sponsors. Needless to say, this family has been forever changed because of one little baby boy!

I want to help a child like Moise!
