Joshua’s Story
In 2006, Joshua’s mother died, leaving Joshua (not actual name) and his two siblings in the care of a relative. But because there were not enough resources to care for everyone, and because Joshua was in ill health, he was left to sit alone in a corner of the house without care or companionship.
When Kids Alive discovered Joshua he was malnourished and very sick. Seeing Joshua’s condition, the Kids Alive worker rescued him and he was admitted to one of our children’s homes.
At first our doctors were afraid Joshua would not survive – he had a terrible case of pneumonia. He was also very afraid and withdrawn, not understanding that the Kids Alive caregivers were trying to help him. But fortunately Joshua’s appetite was good, and soon he began to regain his health and put on some weight. Today Joshua has gained much more weight, has continued to improve, and is now a smiling and playful three-year-old.
