Playgrounds
Kids Alive is saddened today by the theft of playground equipment that was being recycled for orphans and vulnerable children in Peru.
By retrieving and completely refurbishing (sandblasting and powder-coating) used playground equipment, then shipping it to one of our ministry sites overseas, Kids Alive is providing safe and fun places where children can play. And the cost for this refurbished playground equipment is literally only a fraction (10%) of what it would cost new.
The stolen playground equipment had initially come from Grand Rapids Public schools and was in the process of being refurbished. To purchase this set new would cost about $35,000.
But the value of these playground goes far beyond the replacement cost. It is immediately apparent when you see the smiles and hear the squeals of delight from kids who have never slid down a slide or swung on a swing set. And the playgrounds also serve as "kid magnets" — drawing even some of the most reluctant street kids from the community giving Kids Alive opportunities to reach out to them with the love of Jesus.
Today, the needy kids in Peru have lost something valuable. Perhaps, friends like you will help us with a solution to replace their stolen playground.
Thank you.
