Sabina's Story

Kenya-sabinaSabina is the youngest of seven children. All seven children slept on a dirt floor in a one room home with their parents. The father did not have a permanent job and would look daily for work. When he found a temporary job they would have money for food and would eat a meal. When there was no work or food the children would be given a cup of hot water to help them to feel full. At the age of four, Sabina’s mother died and Sabina was brought into the care of Kids Alive. Sabina does well in school and plans to study to become a doctor or lawyer. “I actually feel that I have some people who care about me,” she said about her sponsors. “I have food and somewhere to sleep. I work hard in school to have a good future. I can be a ‘someone’ in someday to come.”

If Sabina had not been rescued by Kids Alive International she would probably be married with several children. It is not uncommon for young girls to be married at the age of 10 or 12, usually to older men who could provide a dowry to their parents.

I want to help a child like Sabina.
