Turmoil in Lebanon

News-lebanonOnce again, Lebanon has been thrown into turmoil. Following the collapse of the ‘unity’ government in January, the recently-appointed Prime Minister has struggled to form a new government that meets the approval of all of the political parties. The result is angry rhetoric from all sides - and political deadlock.

Thankfully though, the streets in Beirut and other cities in Lebanon are calm, at least for the moment. Schools and businesses are operating as normal. At the same time, tensions are high and there is widespread concern that the situation could quickly spiral into public demonstrations and violence on the streets.

Kids Alive International’s work in Lebanon continues, despite the challenges and the latest wave of fear that has enveloped the country. Our Homes and school remain committed to care for the children and meet their needs. We have recently opened a new Care Center in South Lebanon, providing an education, food and medical care to 32 children from extremely difficult situations. And, despite the uncertainty in the country, we are seeing some real encouragements! One of our missionaries wrote recently about how much she has seen God at work in the lives of many of the children that she works with! We thank God for His continued provision and blessing!

Pray for peace in Lebanon, and that a positive way forward will be found to end the political stalemate. Pray for our children, staff and missionaries, that they would remain safe. And pray that we could continue to see God’s hand at work in the children’s lives, and that they would know His peace in their hearts, at all times and in all circumstances.
