Willie's Story
A BRIGHTER FUTURE
Willie lives with his parents and his two-year-old brother in a wood and block house with cement floors. They have a bathroom, kitchen, two bedrooms and electricity but no indoor plumbing. This may seem affluent to most Dominicans but Willie and his family just barely get by. His father works at a little market in the nearby town and earns about $90 a month to care for his family of four. Sometimes he even gets to bring home some of the leftover food from the store.
Willie is enrolled in the Kids Alive School (at no cost) where he not only receives a balanced nutritious meal, but for the first time is learning to read and write! Without the privilege of an education, he would be stuck in a cycle of poverty much like his father and thousands of other poor children in this country. Willie is doing well making the adjustment of being in a classroom; he really looks forward to playing with his friends at recess! Because of you, Willie has hope for a brighter future!
