Wilona's Story
Continually sick and hungry, Wilona (not actual name) and her two siblings were missing a lot of school. So much so that their teacher checked on them and discovered they were home alone much of the time. Their mother had run off with another man, leaving them in the care of their alcoholic father who was unconcerned for their welfare and often unaware of their whereabouts. Living in a high-risk area with no one to protect them, the children became victims of abuse. When their teacher reported her findings to the authorities, the children were taken to a police shelter before being placed in the care of Kids Alive. Wilona, Rosa, and Vitali are now thriving at the Kids Alive Children’s Home, soaking in the love, support and protection their new family lavishes on them.
