Jan Burkey comes from Albany, Oregon with her home church affiliation being
True Vine Fellowship and Logsden Neighborhood Church. Her dad is a retired
educator and pastor and her mother is a retired radiologist. She has a brother,
two sisters, and 15 nieces and nephews. Time permitting, Jan enjoys cross-stitch,
making photo memory albums and a good book.
Jan obtained a joint degree of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from
George Fox University and Western Oregon State College. She taught elementary
school in Christian schools for six years and Bible school during the summer
at the Deer Lake (Ontario) Canadian Indian Reservation. After graduating from
the Western Mennonite High School, she later returned to serve as Dean of Girls.
Jan went to the Dominican Republic as a missionary, serving as Assistant Director/Teacher
at the Ark Children’s Home from 1989-1993, before this ministry joined
Kids Alive® International in 1993. She is presently Director of the Palo
Blanco Preschool with a goal to reach hurting children-in-crisis for Christ. “My
desires is to bring hope and change - not to just one child in a family
- but to the entire family and community. The preschool is also is an avenue
of support to the local church and its programs.”
Why working with Kids Alive International is important to Jan, “ (It)
is a mission that is run with integrity to reach hurting children-at-risk for
Christ. I can feel confident recommending that people support our mission - and
without excuse. I feel part of a family … I know there are people
praying for us and the children we serve.”
