With
close ties in Washington and California, Vic and Leslie came to
Kids Alive International
in February 2002, most recently from Wheaton Bible Church, Wheaton,
Illinois.
They both graduated from Dartmouth College with degrees in Engineering
(Vic) and Biochemistry (Leslie). Leslie continued her medical schooling
at Cornell University Medical College and Oakland Children's Hospital
and worked at the University of Washington, Department of Emergency
Medicine (Emergency Medicine Fellow). Vic received his MBA from Stanford
Business School and worked as General Manager at Weyerhaeuser company.
As Director of Operations, Vic works closely with Jeff VanDerMolen and
Ramon Prenza. “Working in this ministry is important to me because
I believe the rescue and transformation of children’s lives is
important to God. I believe He cares about each child's life and that
work-serving children is pleasing to Him. I am grateful for
how God has blessed me and my family, and that He wants to use the abilities
and experiences that He has given me to help in His work.”
Leslie is the Preventative and Clinical Health Care Director, assists
in Communications, is a busy Mom and home-school teacher. “I had
always wanted to use the gift of my education to help those who would
otherwise have no healthcare. Although I do not have a clinic and
seem to practice medicine on an as-needed basis, I love that God blessed
me with the gift of His work here in the Dominican Republic. Through
physical care, be it medicine or one of our programs, we can love people
holistically, and share about the eternity that Christ offers. I
believe that Jesus met the physical needs of those around him, and that
we are called to do the same - in His name!”
The Trautweins have four young children: Samuel Murphy, Micah Lynne,
Luke Collins and Hannah Chase.
