Haiti Earthquake Relief

Share this video with family and friends

One year after the devastating Haiti earthquake hundreds of thousands still live in temporary tent villages.  Recovery is a tiresome and slow process.

Thanks to the outpouring of prayer and support from friends like you, we’ve rescued and welcomed over 80 kids impacted by the earthquake into our residential care. And more are still coming!

We’re committed to these boys and girls as long as they need us. And we will care for their physical and spiritual needs until they are old enough to take care of themselves. To do this, the first of eight homes at our Haiti Children's Village is now under construction.  The Children’s Village will include -

  • 8 children’s homes
  • 4 transition homes for older teens
  • multi-purpose building
  • staff housing
  • soccer and sports fields
  • and much more!

Beyond that, we are now providing meals and education to nearly four times as many community kids. And this month we have begun to care for 85 street boys in Cap Haitien through our new Haiti Boys' Care Center.

But with all this growth, the majority of these kids don’t have sponsors to take care of them yet. So your gift today is vital!

Please prayerfully consider how you can help these 200+ kids.  Your prayers and support will provide the food, education and essential care they need to grow and become young Christian men and women - and the future leaders of Haiti. Thank you for showing God’s love to these hurting boys and girls.

Thank you for your generosity.

UPDATE:

June 6, 2011 - This past month has included the joy of receiving new children into the eighth home.  Two work teams came to help with the construction of the first two homes at the new property.  Foundations were completed allowing for the start of construction of walls and roofs in June.  A work shop is also under construction on the new site.

February 25, 2011 - It is exciting to see progress being made as we work towards developing our new property.  The perimeter wall has been started and about a third of it is already done. Another nice development is the purchase of a 72 passenger school bus which makes a trip each morning to pick up all of our teachers and kids to bring them to school.  This is a huge blessing in that it saves having to run multiple trips with multiple vehicles.

February 7, 2011 - Riots and demonstrations erupted around Haiti today calling for the President to step down on his last "official" day in office.  Our schools were closed for safety.

January 12, 2011 - Today, on the anniversary of earthquake, churches in Haiti opened their doors for those wanting to pray.  The people of Haiti still have hope that their lives will get better.  Please keep them in your prayers.

November 23, 2010 – Some arrests were made and things are quieter today in Cap Haitien as a number of additional police and UN troops were brought from Port au Prince.  Our Haiti staff was able to buy gasoline and propane today and plan to go to the market tomorrow to stock up on food.  The roads are now open and traffic is beginning to move again.  It seems that the worst of the situation is over although with the upcoming elections next week there could be some additional tensions that resurface.  We are grateful for God’s protection of our children and staff during the past several days of unrest and riots.

November 19, 2010 - The cholera epidemic has spread to the Cap Haitian area near our homes and school.  None of our children have been affected but as a precaution we have closed the school temporarily.  Riots near the UN camps have disrupted access to food and fuel but we pray this will only be temporary.

September 20, 2010 - More children impacted by the earthquake have arrived at our homes almost tripling the number of children in our 24/7 residential program.  We are praying for caring friends to step forward and sponsor these precious boys and girls.

August 27, 2010 - God is doing great things in Haiti!  We received fifty Haitian children from Port au Prince impacted by the earthquake.  We have 4 new sets of house parents and a total of 7 homes.  Kids Alive has acquired 5 acres of land to build 8 homes with an open area in the back for a soccer field.  With school starting soon, we are adding a kindergarten and 5th grade class to the school this year.  The size of our school and community outreach will more than quadruple this year.

June 28, 2010 - Orphans from the earthquake have started arriving to our Residential Homes in Cap Haitian.  The children have come from an orphanage which suffered damage in the earthquake.  They had been sleeping outside under tarps and more orphaned and abandoned children had joined them.  Kids Alive will be bringing about 50 of these kids into our Homes.

April 20, 2010 - We received four more Haitian children in Jarabacoa, DR. They were found walking by the side of the highway just north of Santo Domingo. They were taken into custody by the Dominican government who promptly asked us to care for them. (update 11/22/2010 - These boys are still in our home and doing well at school.  It appears they will be with us for foreseeable future.)

April 8, 2010 - Update on the four boys from Haiti that made there way to the DR - relatives in Haiti have been found for three of them and they have returned to family. One mother was overwhelmed with joy when she was reunited with her child whom she thought had died in the earthquake. Praise God for reuniting these families, and giving Kids Alive an opportunity to share His love while they were with us.

February 22, 2010 - The first of the Haiti orphans arrived today in the Dominican Republic! Found living under a bridge at the border, they were brought to the Kids Alive home in Jarabacoa by social services. Three of the four boys lost a parent in the earthquake.

February 1, 2010 - Al Lackey, President of Kids Alive, called from Port au Prince today.  He is encouraged by the cooperation of the different aid organizations and US military.  Refugee camps seem well supplied and children without adults are being processed, identified, fed, and medically treated.  He met with several officials to move the process along of receiving children into our care.  Child Trafficking is now a major concern so the Haiti government is being very cautious.

January 27, 2010 - Sent a truckload of materials for construction of temporary housing to our facility in Cap Haitian. We have delivered fuel, food and medicine from Santiago to Port au Prince for other missions including hospitals.  Overall, we have probably delivered over 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel.

January 20, 2010 -  After shocks rattled nerves at our home in Cap Haitien but caused no damage.  The first construction team will be heading down next week to build temporary houses.

January 18, 2010 - In cooperation with other ministries, Kids Alive DR is transporting a bus load of fuel to a hospital just outside of Port au Prince to keep their back up generators working.  This hospital has been swamped with thousands of earthquake victims and without this fuel would have had no power to give life-saving care.

January 14, 2010 - Missionaries in Haiti express concern for increased cost of basic supplies like food and fuel. Plans are being made to take in as many orphans as we can as soon as they have been identified by officials into our safe homes in the north of Haiti and possibly in the DR.
