On February 1, 2004, Kids Alive® International opened its first home in Cap Haitien, Philip's Place. The house is named after the faithful deacon appointed by the church in Jerusalem to care for the widows who were being overlooked in the food distribution. This is the same Philip whose evangelistic ministry was responsible for the conversion of the Ethiopian eunuch, which in turn lead to the establishment of one of the most ancient churches on the African continent.
After less than a month of existence, North American personnel were forced to evacuate and Philip's Place was relocated to the Ebenhack's home in the mountains overlooking Cap Haitien in order to avoid any risks involved with the revolution sweeping the north of Haiti. After a month in "exile," the missionaries were able to return from their extended stay with Kids Alive personnel in the Dominican Republic and Philip's Place was moved once again to the rental home in which it began.
Presently, the north of Haiti enjoys peace while the south is in chaos. In the peaceful north, Philip's Place has flourished and grown to twelve children who are under the loving care of Philip and Fifi Morency. The children in the home love to pray and study the Bible, and can rattle off a number of memorized verses from the book of Proverbs. The house is also known for the Christian hymns and choruses which flow from its gate into the ears of anyone passing by.
Please remember to pray for the home, the children and especially for the parents, Philip and Fifi, that God would bless their home and in turn cause their home to be a blessing to Cap Haitien. Philip's Place is sponsored by a group of men and women from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.
