Jimmie and Ivy Kongwa are
Kids Alive home managers of The Chikondi Children's Home & Preschool in Lusaka, the
capital of Zambia. They 13 children they oversee have been rescued from
destitute conditions and are now thriving in elementary school.
Zambia
is wracked by the effects of the AIDS pandemic with hundreds of thousands of
children having lost one or both parents and even extended family members.
The Kongwas are also responsible for the administrative oversight of Kids Alive Zambia, which includes four* children's homes in Mongu (Lilato Two, Lilato Three, Lilato Four, Emmanuel Kids Alive Centre) and a village project in western Zambia.
*The Lilato Five will open the spring of 2005 caring for five babies. Funding is still being sought, but the house has been rented and house parents identified. |
