Myanmar: Children's Home Washed Away, Many Other Homes and Schools Damaged

MAY 8, 2008–Al Lackey, President of Kids Alive International USA announced today that the cyclone that hit Myanmar has completely destroyed one of the Kids Alive children’s homes. It was washed away by the cyclone.

While many children, staff, and families lost everything, Mr. Lackey reports that the children are all safe and temporarily residing in a local church. Thank God these dear ones are completely safe. However, the children will soon need to be moved into temporary quarters outside of the church. Several other Kids Alive homes and area schools have significant structural damage, including lost roofs and water damage. Complete devastation surrounds the area now void of clean water and electricity. Food is scarce causing food prices to skyrocket.  The cost of a bag of rice is now twenty times the average daily wage. Emergency food, clean water, supplies, and housing for the children are needed right now. Our staff of nurses is moving in to give aid to the children in our care as well as the children and families in the surrounding communities.

Mr. Lackey also reported that over $157,000 is urgently needed to rebuild the destroyed children’s home, to repair the damage on the other homes and schools, and provide the emergency care, shelter and medical services that these children desperately need. Additionally, another $100,000 is needed to help support those who live in these communities and show God's love to them in practical ways.
