MOM COULD NOT COME BACK

Village in Papua New Guinea is a place with no full-time doctor*.
Here a “swollen stomach” becomes
a death sentence for a young mother leaving no one to care for her
three-year-old daughter.
That
is the story of Lillian Dan Nugom. She writes:
“When I was three years old, my real mother died with a swollen stomach.
There was no one here who could help my mom. We did not have a nurse or doctor.
I don’t know what kind of sickness my mother had. Since I was so little,
someone had to take care of me. About a week after my mom died, a man I didn’t
know very well came and got me but his wife didn’t want me. After that,
I stayed with my grandmother all day.”
Kids Alive® International is active in Papua New Guinea. Our funds support
nine distinct ministries in that region of the world that include schools,
a medical center and evangelistic outreach. Rescuing children…breaking
the cycle of poverty…is the heart of Kids Alive. Here, in Lillian’s
words, is how that happened for her.
“Later another lady came and my grandmother asked her, ‘Isn’t
that couple going to take care of Lillian?’ The lady said that the first
couple did not want to take care of me. This lady said that she would be back
later.
She returned late at night and asked my grandma, ‘Does Lillian have
