In May of 2003, Kids Alive Peru opened the doors of the Manchay Care Center, an outreach for the children of single moms who are actively seeking a job or are currently employed. The Manchay Care Center provides a Christian environment appropriate for children’s intellectual and spiritual development. Each day children participate in activities that aid in the development of fine and gross motor skills. They learn basic hygiene care and receive nutritious meals. The Care Center requires the mothers to attend their “Mother’s Night” twice a month. During these meetings, they enjoy a meal and time of fellowship. Afterwards, Kids Alive trains them in basic healthcare, nutrition, parenting skills, and God’s Word.

Yes, Kids Alive® International is first and foremost a mission that rescues orphans. However, we also sponsor care centers like the Manchay Care Center in Lima as a proactive response to the needs of children with parents so that they do not become orphaned or abandoned. When it comes to rescuing children in need Kids Alive offers multiple choices.

When Carolina first came to the Manchay Care Center, she was expressionless, unresponsive to stimulation and unable to stand or walk. Today, both Carolina and her mother are making progress. Carolina has gained weight and can walk without difficulty. She smiles and expresses admiration for those who greet her. A service team with Kids Alive has provided a new roofed home for Carolina’s family to aid in their health. Carolina’s mother has also received medical referrals, counsel and support. After the first week at the Care Center, she gave her life to Christ. A choice that was offered because Kids Alive was there to care for her and her family – physically and spiritually.

The extreme poverty and oppression of the people in Manchay can seem overwhelming at times. The needs are great and the resources are limited. It is the desire of Kids Alive that this new ministry grow and expand to meet the needs of more children and single moms in Manchay.
