Let’s explore your passions and gifts by using them through Kids Alive Internships! Are you at least 19 and wanting to spend anywhere from 1-6 months in one of the countries we serve? Our missionaries and staff welcome your help. No matter what your gifts, interests, or skills, you can help change the lives of children and bring the hope of Jesus Christ as you form relationships with them and show them what it means to love in tangible ways.

Internships are a great opportunity to be mentored by those already serving on the mission field. And if you’re not sure what God has for your future, this could be a wonderful way to find out. Every summer, we send top-notch interns for 6-8 weeks to support the ministries on our fields. We also accept interns to serve for 3-6 months during fall, January, and spring terms.

Here is a quick overview of the countries you could serve:

Dominican Republic

In the DR you will have the opportunity to work with underserved children at one of our seven schools or three residential sites. You will work as part of a team along with nationals. Typical work includes tutoring children, organizing/leading fun learning and recreational opportunities, teaching English, and possibly sharing your own skills/hobbies (eg. sports, art, music). Housing varies from living with a national family or young adults to a group of other interns in your own apartment/house. It is very helpful to have a basic level of Spanish. Our interns enjoy building relationships with the kids as well as their coworkers, learn about cross-cultural service, and always leave with improved Spanish skills!
Guatemala
Guatemala Internship
Develop your discipleship skills as an intern in Guatemala! We’d love to have special ed focused interns with conversational Spanish who are able to invest in the children. We’re accepting applications for fall semester interns (and beyond) with strong Spanish skills. Your internship could even include a month of language school followed by helping with end of the year activities, as well as tutoring students.
Haiti
Teaching, assisting in school, playing with children, get Creole tutoring…
Haiti is the place to be if assisting in school, playing with the kids, and helping teach sounds like it is up your alley! There would be some pre-field training required and Creole tutoring provided. Overall, it is a good match if you are wanting to teach sports, English, crafts or any other gift that the Lord has given you!
Kenya
Kenya Intern

If you have a heart for missions but are not sure if direct care with the children is always your strong suit, an internship in Kenya might be a great fit! In Nairobi, you would be helping the mission greatly as you assist with ongoing projects and help collect data. Here are some more specific internships for your consideration:
Remote – (3 months): Social Media & Communications Intern
– Share KAK story on FB page through posts, collect content via email, and potentially take on special projects like fundraising campaigns, researching and writing blog articles, and more.
In-Kenya (3 months): Child Sponsorship Intern – Carry out updates for child files, photos, work ahead with kids on letters/worksheets needed for the Milestone Project, etc.
Digital Storytelling Intern – Photograph, work alongside Social Media Intern to utilize KAK FB page, collect content (stories from staff).
Filmmaker Intern – Shoot, edit, and finish films that tell the story of KAK and will be used in our online media, fundraising projects, and other awareness efforts.
Social Work Intern – Assist KAK staff in provision of social interventions and assistance for clients identified through assessments, case work and case management including follow up to ensure clients are receiving the services allocated and track the impact of the assistance provided to clients.
HR & Administration Intern – Updating employee absence records, filing HR documents accordingly; initiating background check on shortlisted candidates, draft employee communications notifying staff of policy and procedural changes, and providing suitable recommendations to improve HR policies.
Lebanon
Lebanon Internship
The Lebanon internship would focus primarily on working in the classrooms with students and tutoring residential and community kids, especially in English. Longer term interns could help with office administrative tasks, writing stories, helping with newsletters, or video/media projects as well as investing in the spiritual development of the children. By living on campus, interns have a great opportunity to have meaningful interactions with the children and staff. Then the evenings are a great time for you to recharge and get ready for the next day!
Peru

In Peru, we have two different locations that you could serve: Pucallpa, our site in the jungle or our site located just south of the city of Lima. If you go to the jungle the children’s home in Pucallpa is where you would likely spend a lot of your time serving. You might find yourself helping the house parents by preparing and doing fun activities with the kids, teaching some English, helping with homework, helping in the house to keep things tidy and perhaps doing some cooking as well. In Lima we also have a children’s home where you would get involved in a similar way as in Pucallpa and there are always small maintenance type projects as well to keep you busy (painting, organizing, etc). You may also be able to serve in our House of Glory program to young moms and young families by helping look after their toddlers/babies while the parents work and receive counseling/discipleship at the Oasis. Being proficient in Spanish is a high priority as you won’t have a translator and you spend much time working on your own. You will most likely be living in the team apartment or in a place close-by. Both locations do not afford a lot of expat community and so being prepared for a time of limited relationships with other English speakers will be important.

Zambia

1. Chikondi village (Lusaka)– Chikondi Village is located in the capital city of Lusaka. Lusaka has a lot of western influence with malls, a variety of restaurants, and coffee shops. The Kids Alive Zambia head office is also located onsite at Chikondi Village. You could work out of the head office, but still have the benefit of interacting with the children that live here in a variety of activities.

2. Care Center (Lusaka)– This care center is located near one of the slums in Lusaka called Misisi. You would help with moral support and academics. Along with that, you would help tutor and mentor the kids that come after or before school to the care center.
3. Lilato Children’s Home (Mongu – about 10 kilometers from the KA Academy) – To get here, you are going to have to take a road trip, which takes about 10-12 hours. Since it is farther away, there is very little western influence, and is more in the bush than the others. Your primary mission would be supporting the staff with various needs (spiritual leadership, reading, child sponsorship, etc.) for the children that are there.

4. Kids Alive Academy (Mongu) – The academy is by the far the biggest location where we have over 500 students. People who are trained in trauma counseling, social work, project management, teaching, or can assist in HR would be ideal for this location!
