The Results of Our Service

A young Haitian woman in the Dominican Republic is heading to college on a Kids Alive scholarship, having overcome poverty, language barriers, discrimination, and deportation fears. Among the first Haitian students to attend one of our schools, Yolanda came to us as a young child when the Dominican government had discriminatory policies denying Haitians essential government services. She learned Spanish, excelled in her classes, helped her five siblings and parents in their remote shanty, and gained a good reputation in her church and community. Kids Alive walked with Yolanda, helping her with education, nutrition, and immigration requirements for over fifteen years.
