“My eyes fail from weeping, I am in torment within; my heart is poured out on the ground because my people are destroyed, because children and infants faint in the streets of the city.” (Lamentations 2:11)
Our hearts are breaking today at the news headlines from around the world. There are horrific stories of suffering children and their families, persecution of Christians, violence and destruction. Join with Kids Alive International in praying for five of the world’s current trouble spots – where children are fearful and helpless as they face conflict, starvation and even death…
IRAQ: Over the past few weeks, hundreds of thousands of Christians and other religious minority groups in northern Iraq have been forced to flee from intense persecution by a militant Islamic group, IS (“Islamic State”). Many children and their families have already been brutally murdered. Thousands of displaced people now face starvation in horrific conditions. PRAY for peace to be restored in this area, that Christians would remain strong in their faith, and for the protection of young children that are caught up in this conflict. Pray also for safety, guidance and strength for Christian relief agencies as they bring God’s hope to these broken Christian families and many others who have fled their homes.
SOUTH SUDAN: Despite recent peace talks, the cycle of violence in South Sudan continues. It is estimated that 50,000 children face starvation from famine unless they can be reached urgently with food and other humanitarian aid. More than one million people have fled their homes and are displaced. PRAY that God would work in the hearts of South Sudan’s leaders, that they would choose reconciliation ahead of violence. Pray that aid would reach those communities that need it most. Pray for the children that Kids Alive is working with in Wau, that God would continue to transform their lives; pray also for the resources needed to enable us to help more children in this very needy land.
NIGERIA: Another militant Islamic group, Boko Haram, has been wreaking violence and death in Nigeria and other surrounding countries, particularly on Christians. In May, more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram; their whereabouts remains unknown. Recently it has been reported that young girls have been utilized as suicide bombers. PRAY that this group’s murderous activities would be curtailed, for the safe return of the kidnapped girls to their families, and that church leaders and other Christians would have peace and courage at this difficult time.
ISRAEL / GAZA: An upsurge in hostilities in this region in recent weeks has left more than 1,800 people dead, including hundreds of children. Many communities now face urgent shortages of food and water. PRAY for an end to this conflict, and that Christian believers would keep their eyes on Christ. Pray especially for children and young people caught up in terror and violence that is beyond their understanding.
SYRIA / LEBANON: The conflict in Syria continues. More than 150,000 people have died and as many as nine million are refugees or displaced within Syria. In Lebanon, where Kids Alive works, there are now more than one million refugees. Read the story of one refugee and his baby in Lebanon. PRAY for peace in this region, for Christians that are now facing persecution for their faith in Syria, and for the refugees – many of them children – who currently have little hope for the future. Pray also for our ministry in Lebanon, Dar El Awlad, and for our other partners, particularly “Heart for Lebanon” – that we would be able to reach out with Christ’s love to more of those that are suffering.
Thank you for praying with us!
