Being an organization that is “growing and thriving” is one of Kids Alive’s three core commitments as we enter our second century of ministry. And, as I conclude a three-day, whirlwind visit of our Kenya programs, I am encouraged to see how our children and staff in this poverty-stricken country are living out this commitment on a daily basis.
Our children in Kenya come from the toughest of backgrounds. They come to us hurting, bewildered, and bruised as a result of the suffering they have experienced through being orphaned, abandoned, abused, hungry, or sick. Yet the sense of joy that exists in our family-style homes and school in Kenya is inspiring. Smiles, singing, and laughter abound.
The progress that many of these children are making in school is impressive. They have dreams for the future that reflect the hope that now lives in their hearts. And the sight of these kids raising their arms and voices to a heavenly Father who loves them passionately and who has wonderful plans for their lives brought tears to my eyes.
So much of the transformation we see in the lives of these children is a result of the efforts of an excellent team of national staff, led by director Purity Nyamu. I spent two days with the staff team, discussing a range of issues such as child protection, sharing the Gospel message with children, pursuing excellence in ministry, and the importance of effective teamwork. I was overwhelmed by the passion, love and commitment that each person has to see every child be part of a loving family and have a promising future. These people are truly change-makers!
God is doing some great things in Kenya! Please join me in praying:
- That every child we serve in Kenya would achieve their full potential and come to have “life in all its fullness” through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- For our staff team, that each staff member would allow God to work in and through them to share His love; that they would have the strength, wisdom, and courage to respond to the challenges they face daily.
- For the financial resources needed to grow this ministry further so that even more children may be rescued and restored to the future.
Thank you for your support and prayers – they are making a difference!
