Help children like Stephany* find safety, hope, and healing

Stephany* knows the meaning of trauma. She was just a child when she was sold as a “bride” to the owner of the business where her parents work.

By the time she was 13 she was pregnant, and complications drove her to seek help at an area hospital. Since Stephany was obviously a minor, the hospital reported her case to Guatemala’s Child Protective Services, and she was placed in a government home.

The Guatemalan authorities notified Kids Alive of Stephany’s need for a safe place to live. After four months in the government home, she was transferred to Kids Alive’s La Arquilla program in Guatemala, where the team began working on her case.

Stephany still faces powerful forces arrayed against her, but thanks to generous gifts from people like you, Kids Alive is changing her story.

• The Kids Alive legal team is working directly with the Guatemalan Anti-trafficking Office to protect her, as her aggressor’s lawyers are seeking to remove her from our custody.
• Counselors and social workers have put together an individualized trauma therapy plan to walk with her toward wholeness.
• Kids Alive seeks to place each child/teen in a home where they can know a real mother and father and a permanent sense of belonging.

Without the safety generous donors are providing, Stephany and her newborn daughter would be unprotected and would likely be returned to a life of danger and heartache.
