Your gift brightens the future of Haiti’s children!

Since 2002, thousands of children and families have been part of the Kids Alive Haiti family. Kids Alive provides many resources – food & personal essentials, counseling, medical assistance, academic and legal services, extracurricular activities – made possible through financial support and volunteer service teams. Through times of natural disaster, economic crisis and political turmoil, our programs infuse hope in the lives of children – made possible by countless individual and collective acts of kindness and generosity.

The economic effects of the pandemic in Haiti had not abated when the July 2021 presidential assassination followed by a deadly earthquake in August threw the country into a tailspin. Today, as many families and communities in Haiti face a level of uncertainty that is almost unimaginable, the campus of Kids Alive Haiti is a place where hope remains – yet we must address a potential crisis.

Solar Power: a critical need

The Kids Alive campus relies on a gas-powered generator in the day and solar-powered, battery-operated inverters in the night. The price of gas has spiraled and its lack of availability, compromised by corruption and violence, have brought our gas generator to a near halt and increased our dependence on the solar-powered inverter.

Imagine a child experiencing a disruption in power: they are hindered from finishing homework in the evenings, and during the day, their education is impeded as classrooms limit the use of lights and fans, even as the temperatures soar to the 90s. A tiny drop in power from the solar-powered batteries seriously impacts food refrigeration in the school and children’s homes, a critical necessity with food in short supply during these uncertain times. For the above reasons, we urgently need an additional inverter and the replacement of old wiring in the children’s homes.

How you can help

The children on the Kids Alive Haiti campus will be able to maintain a sense of normalcy – a safe place amidst the chaos – if we can maintain power on campus. The “cost” of safety and security is $50,000.

  • $37,000 to purchase an additional solar-powered inverter with batteries and installation
  • $12,000 to replace wiring for children’s village homes

The impact of your generosity

A stable power supply means children will maintain their schooling, food will not be wasted, and hope will flourish. Our dedicated staff, free from worry over essentials, will be able to provide the foundation upon which the children of Haiti can build a better future for generations to come.
