On the outskirts of Lima, Juniper Tree cares for orphaned, abandoned, or abused children in loving homes. Because most of them have endured trauma, we keep the homes small, helping them to feel safe and giving them a family atmosphere most of them never knew. At Juniper, we meet their immediate needs but we look beyond food and shelter and give them tools to process the hurts of the past so they can move into bright futures.
Many of the kids we are serving now are teenagers, and we’re thrilled that many of our graduates continue their education in either university or trade schools. Our site has also been the birthplace of a new ministry for teen moms which will soon be a site of its own. Through God’s power and the support of our generous partners, we are planting seeds of faith that we pray will lead to good fruit in these Peruvian children.
Newly-hired house parents are helping us more effectively meet the needs of each child, and we have now completed staff training in ways to best recognize and protect children from abuse. An important part of our work this year was working on life plans for the kids, which included creating closer relationships with their relatives.
In the coming year, we will work to facilitate independence training for our graduates and improve administration and infrastructure of our physical property. But our most critical need is to hire for our remaining staff positions, making sure that we can minister with excellence in every area of our work.
