Juniper Tree Children´s Home is located in Pachacamac, on the southern outskirts of Lima. Here we are dedicated to rescuing orphaned, abused, or abandoned children and placing them in loving, family-style homes. Consistent with our organizational commitment to provide holistic care, we seek to meet their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs while giving them tools to begin healing from the trauma they’ve experienced. read more »
Rebecca* came from a dysfunctional, unsafe situation. Her parents separated and she lived with her mother and siblings, but because her mother worked long hours away from home, the children were neglected. There was no money or food left at home for them, they had no running water or toilets, and the father rarely visited. After her mother reached out for help, Kids Alive offered the family some support. Sadly, her mother died of breast cancer in 2014, so at the age of eight, Rebecca came to live at Juniper Tree. She was very thin when she arrived and very behind in her schooling.
Today, she is a cheerful, confident, helpful 14-year-old girl. She works hard to get good grades and is motivated to succeed. In the past year, her father has visited a few times, which lifts her spirits. Rebecca deeply desires to be reunited with her family, and we are working on a plan for her to live with her brother and his family. As she makes the transition, our social worker and psychologist will follow the situation, maintain connection, and offer continued support. We are very happy that she will soon be living with family, as we know this is the best for a child’s development. And as the plan unfolds, we look forward to watching her thrive in her new home.
