While we are providing for their immediate, tangible needs, it is our hope that they will begin to understand the hope and healing offered in the Gospel. Recovery from trauma or abandonment can take a long time, as our staff re-build trust through relationships and connection with the children in this family setting.
We are excited that many children continue their education either in university or trade schools after leaving Juniper Tree. And in December, four of our Juniper Tree students graduated from high school, our largest group yet! We have many goals for the ministry in the coming year, but we are also overwhelmed with God’s goodness, as we see real hope and joy in the eyes of these precious young people.
Eduardo’s* heartbreaking story began when he was very young. He was found at the age of four, sleeping on the street on a cold winter night. Left with only a blanket, he could only tell us his first name, and wasn’t able to communicate the names of any of his family members. Eventually his mother was located, but it became clear that she was unwilling and unable to care for her son due to extreme substance abuse problems. No other suitable relatives were found to care for him, and nothing is known about his father, so we welcomed him into Juniper Tree.
More than just a warm place to sleep, Eduardo’s new home also offers safety, acceptance, and family. He is receiving a good education that gives him hope for the future, and he is making friends. What a privilege it is to come alongside a child who is facing the bleakest of circumstances, and offer tangible help that makes a difference! Most importantly, Eduardo is now hearing daily about the love and healing power of Jesus.
