At Kids Alive, we walk alongside vulnerable children as they navigate the harsh realities of trauma such as abuse, sexual violence, and neglect. Our team is committed to providing a place of safety and protection - a safe haven - to heal those traumatic wounds and build communities where violence and trauma are reduced. As a Safe Haven Champion, you support our family strengthening, protective care, and justice advocacy programs.

How does Safe haven care work?

Safe Haven employs a team of expert caretakers, or champions, catering to each child’s unique needs for health, justice, and emotional healing. Champions include nurses, tutors, safeguarding officers, house parents, and even security guards. Psychologists use trauma-informed methods and biblical truth to start the road to emotional health.

Our goal for every child is to know the blessing of family. Through our family strengthening program, we seek to help children remain with or reunite with their immediate or extended family when possible. If this isn’t an option, we work toward placing them with loving, trained, accountable Christian parents.

Safe Haven includes family reunification programs, fostering, adoption, independent living, parent training, family preservation, education, job skills, therapy, systemic change, government collaboration, victim advocacy and restoration, criminal prosecution of sexual abuse cases for healing, and more.

Life Declaration Cards to help children heal.

To ensure a consistent approach to emotional healing and spiritual formation, we use Life Declaration Cards, a set of cards given to each child in a Safe Haven program. Each card articulates values we are called to live by and a statement about our identities in Christ. Kids Alive staff reference these cards throughout the day with the kids, in devotional or Bible study times, in counseling, and even in a conflict on the playground. They provide a consistent framework on which to build new spiritual foundations of identities and values.

As a Safe Haven Champion, you will receive a welcome letter and first Life Declaration Card, followed by quarterly updates about the ministry of your selection.

As a Safe Haven Champion, your encouragement can reach further than you might think. You're welcome to send a message to:

A student you've previously championed
The children and students at your Safe Haven location
A staff member – such as a nurse, house parent, tutor, or caregiver

A few kind words can remind a child they are seen and loved, and help the people caring for them every day feel supported.

Important things to note:

For security and privacy reasons, all messages are sent to the Kids Alive International USA office first to ensure cultural appropriateness and translation, and may be edited or withdrawn if needed.
You are welcome to write as often as you like.
Attachments such as e-cards, audio recordings, or video recordings are unavailable at this time. Appropriate photos sent by mail are welcome.
To help us deliver your message, please include the recipient's first name and Safe Haven location. For a student, please also include their student ID if you have it. For a staff member, their role (e.g. nurse, house mom) is enough if you don't know their name.
Students who receive individual letters will write back at least twice a year. Group and staff messages may not receive an individual reply.
