Teachers Not Only Teach But Model Jesus’ Love

Our teachers have a far higher calling than just teaching, they also model the love of Christ to the children they are called to serve. They work tirelessly not only to teach but also model God's love to children coming from challenging situations. To express our gratitude for their dedicated service, ensure their sustained well-being, at the end of each school year, all teachers go on a retreat. It is a time of rest, relaxation, reflection and fun. The well-deserved retreat is the school’s way to affirm and appreciate them for their dedication and service to the children of Zapote.

This year our teachers traveled to the little city of Huehuetenango, northern Guatemala. During the retreat, they discussed wand reflected on what they teach their students and were also reminded that they too are clean, chosen and powerful children of God. On day two of the retreat, their excursion took them to Guatemala’s highest and coldest point in Huehuetenango. The breathtaking and awe-inspiring 360-degree view was a reminder of God’s greatness as well as His love for each one. The teachers enjoyed worshiping God together through music, prayer, and art and returned home encouraged and knowing how much they are valued and loved.

A Teachers Story:

Ms. Cindy has been teaching alongside her sister and aunt at Source of Hope for five years now. She travels over four hours by bus every week to get from her hometown to the school in Zapote where she teaches fifth-graders as well as models Christ’s love to the students and those around her. When asked why she enjoys teaching at Source of Hope, and what makes the school different from others, she replies, “I enjoy getting to spend time with the kids and I like that here we get to plant God's love in our students’ hearts.” Source of Hope is proud to have Ms. Cindy as one of our teachers and can’t wait to see what God has in store for her life.
