Become a Champion!

Education. It’s an equalizer and an accelerator, but the most empowering aspect of education is knowing that it is a gift that can’t be taken away. An academic and Biblical education supersedes life’s circumstances and inspires creativity and hope. Each student you support – through your prayers, your sponsorship letters, monetary donations –receives a gift that can’t be taken away, much like their relationship with Christ.

Every child has a calling, a purpose, unique skills and talents – and in the classrooms, lunchrooms, and playgrounds of our schools, these life-shaping, Godgiven attributes are amplified by the teachers and staff that surround them every day.

Read Psalm 139 – especially verse 14. Many of us learned as young children that we were “fearfully and wonderfully made.” This Psalm also applies to every child who has an opportunity to attend a Kids Alive school. I’m confident that God doesn’t categorize them as children who have fewer material resources, or children who live in economically fragile communities, or children who have fractured families: they are His workmanship, each created with a divine purpose. “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to pass.” Psalm 139:16 (NIV)

Furthermore, I’m confident that each of us has a role to fulfill, as members of the body of Christ, in championing these children.

This past March, just 157 days after joining the staff of Kids Alive International, I touched down in Nairobi, Kenya for the beginning of an inspiring, humbling, and energizing 16-day tour of our schools, clinics, homes, and communities in Kenya and Zambia. My Kids Alive colleagues in those two countries – brothers and sisters in Christ whose work you support – are taking God’s provision, faithfully stewarding it, and witnessing the multiplying effect of their labors and your prayers.

As you read the stories in this newsletter – and explore the links to other stories and videos that are provided – our hope is that you will begin to understand why students who step onto a Kids Alive campus are uniquely prepared to impact and inspire their families, their communities, and each of us who support them.

In the Spring of 2023, I’ll return to Zambia and Kenya, Lord willing, with 20+ of you on a KAI Vision Trip for professionals in health, legal, and STEM industries. We’ll create a plan for intercontinental partnerships that leverage the best of each country’s resources for the benefit of the children and communities that we serve. If you’d like to join us, please reach out to me at karin.douglas@kidsalive.org – I’d be delighted to hear from you.

Yours in Christ,
