Declaring Life: Faith

Faith is not simply something we believe internally—Scripture reveals it as something we live, practice, and step into with our whole lives. It influences how we respond to hardship, how we see ourselves, and how we step forward when the future feels uncertain. Faith is not simply what we believe — it is what we trust enough to live out.

This is why the Faith card names belief clearly and practically:

We show faith by believing that in Jesus:

  • I am clean
  • I am a child of God
  • I am powerful
  • I am chosen

What Faith Really Is

Hebrews gives one of the clearest descriptions of faith in Scripture:

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1

Faith is assurance — a settled confidence — even when circumstances do not yet reflect what we hope for. It is conviction rooted not in what we can see or control, but in who God is.

Scripture immediately follows this definition with real people who lived this way. One of them is Abraham.

A Picture of Faith in Action

When God called Abraham, He did not give him a detailed plan or a guaranteed outcome. Scripture simply says:

“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went, not knowing where he was going.”
Hebrews 11:8

Abraham’s faith was not proven by certainty — it was shown through obedience.

He trusted God enough to move forward without seeing the full picture.

This is what faith looks like in real life: stepping into what God says is true, even when the path ahead feels unclear or risky.

Let’s Reflect:
Where might God be inviting trust before full understanding?

Faith and Identity Are Deeply Connected

The declarations on the Faith card echo this same kind of trust.

To say “I am clean” is to believe God’s forgiveness is real, even when shame lingers.
To say “I am a child of God” is to trust belonging, even when rejection has been part of the past.
To say “I am powerful” is to believe God’s strength is at work, even in weakness.
To say “I am chosen” is to trust purpose, even when life has communicated otherwise.

Faith means living from God’s truth before feelings or circumstances catch up.

This kind of faith grows slowly and safely — through repetition, relationship, and time.

Let’s Reflect:
Which of these truths feels easiest to believe right now? Which feels hardest?

Living Like These Truths Are Real

Faith becomes visible through action.

Abraham didn’t just believe God’s promise — he walked in response to it.

In the same way, faith today shows up in everyday choices:

  • Choosing hope instead of resignation
  • Trust instead of fear
  • Truth instead of old narratives

Faith does not deny hardship. It declares that hardship does not get the final word.

For children and adults healing from trauma, faith offers a pathway forward — not by erasing the past, but by anchoring identity in what God says is true.

Let’s Reflect:
What might it look like to live today as if one of these truths were fully true?

Faith Grows Through Practice and Community

Faith is not meant to be lived alone. Throughout Scripture, faith is nurtured within community — through encouragement, shared stories, and lived example.

As faith grows, it becomes a steady foundation. Not because life becomes easy, but because identity becomes secure.

Faith forms people who can stand, trust, and move forward — even when the future remains unseen.

Holding On to What Is True

Faith is not a finish line. It is a way of living — returning again and again to what God has spoken and choosing to walk in it.
