1 in 8 children experience sexual abuse.

It's hard to comprehend. How can the number be that high? Will the abusers ever see justice? How do these children find healing? Where do you even start with a global problem like this?

That's what Kids Alive's mission is all about. You can't change the whole world all at once, but you have to start somewhere. That's why we're active in six countries doing the hard work necessary to make a real impact for these children and their communities.

At just six years old, Valeria* endured repeated abuse by her father. For nearly half her life, violence was routine. She was scared and helpless—kept out of school, forced to work during the day, and cut off from the outside world. At age 14, her situation was discovered and she was sent to Kids Alive Guatemala's Oasis Center, a place where girls who have experienced abuse are protected and cared for while a safe long-term living situation is arranged.

She arrived malnourished, developmentally behind, and deeply traumatized. But at Oasis, she could finally begin to heal. She started to verbalize her experiences with her psychologist. The three Oasis caregivers—her "tías"—walked with her day by day, offering encouragement and structure. She took lessons to learn how to read for the first time. And when she turned 15, she was honored with a traditional Quince Años celebration.

Luana began processing her experiences in ways suited to her learning needs

Luana* and her mother came to Kids Alive Peru to participate in vocational workshops, but it soon became clear they needed deeper support. For years, they lived in the aftermath of sexual violence from multiple abusers. They had a lot to work through, and at Kids Alive, they finally found the opportunity. They received trauma-informed psychological support through one-on-one sessions and group programs for creative expression and learning basic skills like sewing.

Meanwhile, Kids Alive coordinated legal advocacy on their behalf in the justice system, leading to one of their abusers being convicted, and another pending for a requested 23-year prison sentence.

Their stories are still being written, but their futures are no longer ones of fear and uncertainty. They're on a path toward true healing. None of this happens by accident—it's only possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of social workers, psychologists, caretakers, lawyers, missionaries, directors, and so many more.

That's where you can help.

Your donation today goes directly towards this work, helping children around the world through safety, trauma therapy, and justice advocacy.

The stakes are real. Without intervention, children who have experienced sexual abuse are 12 times more likely to attempt suicide and 8 times more likely to experience addiction. Without coordinated legal advocacy, 97% of abusers are never punished for their crimes.

But it doesn't have to be this way. We can take a stand together.

Every dollar makes a difference. But what makes the biggest impact in the lives of these children is steady presence and reliable support.

That's why we encourage you to donate monthly and stay through the whole journey.
